Rahul Gupta, MD, MPH, FACP, is an Assistant Professor, Department of Internal Medicine at Meharry Medical College; and Clinical Assistant Professor at Vanderbilt University Medical School, both in Nashville, Tenn. He is an internist with a special interest in infectious diseases, HIV/AIDS, public health, and health policy.

Dr Gupta serves on the Modern Medicine Editorial Advisory Board. Dr Gupta earned his MD degree at the University College of Medical Sciences, University of Delhi, India. He completed his internship and residency training at St Joseph Hospital/Northwestern University in Chicago, Ill. He also completed postgraduate subspecialty training in pulmonary medicine at University of Delhi. Dr. Gupta is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine. Additionally, he has a Masters in Public Health (MPH) in Healthcare Organization and Health Policy from the University of Alabama-Birmingham. Dr. Gupta was also awarded a fellowship from the American College of Physicians in 2004.

As a faculty member, Dr Gupta has been recognized as the best teaching attending several times by the medical students and residents. He was also awarded the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) medical honor society award. Dr Gupta has written numerous articles on clinical topics of interest to primary care physicians and authored a textbook on pathology as well as contributed chapters to Essential Family Medicine by R. Rakel. He has lectured internationally on cardiovascular disease and acute life support. Dr Gupta has served as the principal investigator for over a dozen clinical trials. Because of his interests in evaluating current health policy and medical education, Dr Gupta has served as a key contact for the American College of Physicians, helping to influence legislators on pivotal health policy issues.
