Prostate Condition Symptoms Linked to Ejaculation Problems Publish date: Jul 6, 2009 ![]() MONDAY, July 6 (HealthDay News) -- Urologists treating patients with lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS), which suggest
benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), should counsel patients on the increased risk that LUTS/BPH and BPH treatment present
for ejaculatory dysfunction, according to a literature review published in the July issue of Urology. Wayne J.G. Hellstrom, M.D., of Tulane University in New Orleans, and colleagues studied the medical literature and conference
abstracts on the association between LUTS/BPH and BPH treatments and ejaculatory dysfunction in aging men. The reviewers found that in population-based and clinical studies, ejaculatory dysfunction was significantly associated
with LUTS, after adjustment for age and comorbidities, and that some treatments for LUTS/BPH were also associated with ejaculatory
dysfunction, such as transurethral resection of the prostate or use of the drugs tamsulosin and silodosin. "As a result of the strong link between LUTS and ejaculatory dysfunction, physicians should discuss sexual function with
their patients who have LUTS/BPH, especially when selecting a BPH treatment and when monitoring the effects of BPH treatment,"
Hellstrom and colleagues conclude. "Likewise, physicians should discuss LUTS/BPH with their patients with ejaculatory dysfunction." Abstract Copyright © 2009 ScoutNews, LLC.
